How Does UVC Kill Bacteria? How does UVC Radiation Work?

UVC is light with a wavelength of 200nm~280nm. It can penetrate cell membranes and cell nuclei in organisms, destroy the molecular structure of DNA or RNA in microbial cells, cause growth cell death or regenerative cell death, thereby achieving sterilization effect.

How long does it take a UVC Irradiation Light to Sterilize?

When used for air disinfection, the doors and windows should be closed. The disinfection time should not be less than 60 minutes each time. The time is 5-7 minutes after the light is on. People are prohibited from entering the room during the irradiation process. When it is necessary to enter due to work needs, the irradiation should be stopped, especially young people. Unmarried nurses keep this in mind. When disinfecting items, spread or hang the items to expand the irradiation surface. The effective distance is one meter and the irradiation is not less than 30 minutes. The bactericidal effect of ultraviolet rays on bacteria. The method uses ultraviolet rays to irradiate Escherichia coli, Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albicans, and Bacillus subtilis respectively for 20 min, 30 min, 40 min, 50 min, and 60 min. The results are different bacterial pairs. The resistance to ultraviolet rays is different. After 30 minutes of ultraviolet radiation, E. coli and Proteus all died. After 40 minutes, all Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus albicans died. After 60 minutes, all Bacillus subtilis died. Conclusion When UV disinfection is performed, The irradiation time should be greater than 60 min.

Actually, the time for sterilization depends on the types of UVC LED strip.

For example, for UVC LED strip 60leds 12v, the sterilization rate and time are as below:

How to protect yourself from UVC radiation rays

1. People, animals and plants must leave the scene during ultraviolet disinfection.

2. Do not stare at the ultraviolet disinfection lamp for a long time. Ultraviolet rays have certain damage to human skin and mucous membranes. When using ultraviolet disinfection lamps, pay attention to protection. Don’t look directly at the ultraviolet light source, otherwise the eyes will be harmed.

3. After ultraviolet disinfection, remember to ventilate for 30 minutes before entering the room.
